In Episode 80, Sam talks to Paul Jansz of The Professional Partners, an accounting network collaborating with accounting firms and financial advisory firms to offer niche opportunities to their clients,  disrupting the traditional client service model.

With a background in coaching and training accountants, and a strong track record of dealing with more than 120 accounting firms internationally, Paul is well placed to talk to the gaps and opportunities of building dynamic businesses. Sam draws on this experience to encourage broader thinking around varying business models beyond conventional structures.

Based on the premise of finding out what people want and then delivering it, Paul and Sam talk to the importance of having real conversations with clients and asking the right questions, one of which is ”what’s keeping you up at night?”. With practical examples and clear language, this podcast will have you looking at your business in a different light.

Quotes

“Everyone’s only got 24 hours in a day, 7 days a week, but some do it differently and some are better at using their time differently. So how do you develop that mindset. I think that’s an important part.” Paul

“How do we get out there and start talking to our clients. The old scenario of having a conversation and not relying on technology to do it” Paul

“It’s that investment of an hour now, and it’s the same exactly with a relationship, an hour to learning and finding out what I need to do and implementing over a period of time, and then the value you get. One of the things we know for sure if you spend more time on the discomfort of stuff, of maybe letting some tasks go, and that will create so much time. Intuitively we struggle with that.“ Sam

“The more you educate, the more recognition and power you have, definitely in the marketplace. Everyone wants education and that gets rid of a lot of the blocks going forward.” Sam

“There is data out there, 100%, you don’t need to be the expert in that field…to ask really good business questions. It’s those sorts of questions that will then lead to further opportunities“ Paul

“Disruption is disruption, and it could come from anywhere. It could actually even come from your health, from your family. Working on businesses and actually keeping asking questions, you are then going to be a little bit more agile so you can meet those disruptions as they come up “ Sam
